eSISO Focus Material Management Plan

1.0 Purpose

1.1 The purpose of the document is to provide guidelines for eSISO's management of focus material (FM).

1.2 To satisfy the management system requirements established in “R2 Standard for Electronics Recyclers” Clause 5. Focus Material requirements: Development and Adherence to an FM Management Plan.

2.0 Scope

2.1 This procedure applies to eSISO’s formally implemented management of Focus Material.

4.0 Definitions

4.1 None.

5.0 Responsibilities

5.1 eSISO's R2 Manager is responsible for administration and assurance of conformance.

5.2 Supervisors are responsible to adherence to the requirements of the associated procedures.

6.0 Procedure

6.1 eSISO plans for the management of its focus materials, mainly electronic circuit boards including servers or chassis with circuit boards and mercury batteries.

6.2 eSISO has created process flow diagrams that delineate the processes that are practiced. The process follows the following priority;

6.2.1 First option is direct reuse of tested, working equipment and parts (see eSISO General Testing Procedure and eSISO HDD Data Purging Procedure attached in Attachment 2 & 3).
6.2.2 The second option is refurbish and repair of electronic components for reuse (see eSISO Refurbish/Cleaning & Cosmetic Removal Process attached in Attachment 2).
6.2.3 Material recycling.

  • Safe remove and separation of mercury batteries. Tape the battery terminals with non-conductive tape to protect them from risk of discharge and explosion. Store batteries in clearly marked plastic container
  • All focus materials should be stored in designated warehouse area and in the containers that are cleared marked as Focus Material
  • Use only R2 certified downstream recyclers for FM recycling process
  • Prior to shipping of a focus material shipment, obtain documentation from the downstream recycler demonstrating that the countries legally accept such shipments and the recycler complies with the applicable export and import laws.
  • Create separate invoice or packing list with complete part number, description and quantity of each item for each shipment sending out to a downstream recycler.
  • All focus materials to be shipped must be packed properly so they don’t contaminate the facility and the environment, and are not harmful to the safety and health of the employees.
  • Ask the designated FM pickup driver to verify the shipment and/or total weight and sign a copy of the invoices and packing lists.
  • Obtain delivery confirmation to confirm safe and complete delivery of the shipments from the downstream recycler.
  • Keep all the above mentioned records for at least three years.
